(WARNING! NOW DOWNLOADING RANT)
Windows 8.1 automatically installed its self while I was asleep a few days ago. I had the best and stable windows 8 Gaming laptop. Weighing in at $2625.00, an i7 processor with AMD graphics, 16GB DDR 3, and 256 SSD Primary Drive; this is no average contender. I have a high desire/need to multi task many programs at once without losing performance or mobility and this computer handled it perfectly. Executing tasks in minutes (video encoding/ editing) what took a mid-range computer hours. All while allowing me to play WoW on ultra-settings while I wait.
Now that 8.1 has Taken Over my computer I have had several computer freezes and lock ups. WoW now suffers from sporadic crashes, my video editing programs Crash EVERY time I try to click ANY of the buttons. To make matters worse I have a small project that needed to be completed yesterday. It would have taken 20 mins at most to accomplish but windows 8.1 made it impossible. Short of re-installing Windows 8 and ~81.8GB of programs, not to mention (but I will anyways ;D ) 41.9GB of user files, resources, etc I will have to dig up my old -low end basic use- laptop and try to get the project done on that. I already missed the first deadline… Gee Thanks Microsoft, you managed to come up with something that may be worse than a 1000 Viruses on virtual steroids.
Now I would think that a store bought computer that came with 8.1 already on it should be fine. But the update/ free download knows NOTHING of the complex workings that went into fusing the software and hardware with the win 8 OS. It should not be allowed to download without many annoying and persistent confirmation windows and Warnings! I’ll bet it snuck in with Window Update’s normal maintenance; what a twisted Trojan horse approach.
IF my computer dies from this DISEASE I may have no choice but to stop ALL of my Microsoft support and get a Mac (effectively requiring me to replace over $4k in computer programs). IMO I think NOW would be a good time to off load any stock one may have in Microsoft. *shakes head* It’s like they are taking both good and bad ideas and building them on a volatile foundation.
But hay window 8.1 fixed a small issue with one of their apps that stopped working in window 8. Yay great priorities >_> Sooo Worth all this trouble… NOT!
Thank you for reading. I’m off to fight this virus of an OS… (if only it was a Raid boss or some rampaging Legendary Pokémon at level 100)
